Two hundred and eleven patients with clinical impression of fibroadenoma underwent excisional biopsies between January 1988 and December 1990 at the Dekpartment of Surgery, School of Medicine, Keimyung University, Taegu, Korea. The diagnosis of
fibroadenoma was confirmed pathologically in 182 patients.

@EN 1) The age raged between 12 and 49, with the mean age of 27.4, ninety-nine patients(54.4%) were between the ages of 21 and 30, making the most frequent age group for the development of fibroadenomas.
2) All patients presented with a palpable mass in their breasts, and in 170 patients (93.4%), the breast mass was the only presenting symptom.
3) Fibroadenomas were dound on the right side in 47.8% and on the left side in 44.5%. Multiple fibroadenomas were found in 23 patients(12.6%) and 12 of these 23 were bilateral.
4) The sizes of the tumor ranged between 0.5 cm and 15 cm, with the average size 2.54 cm. On hundred and twenty one patients(66.5%) had tumor less than 3 cm in size, and 61 patients (33.5%) had tumors greater than 3 cm.
5) Duration of symptoms prior to physician consultation was less than 6 months in III patients961.0%), between 7 months and 2 years in 37 patients(20.3%), and more than 2 years in 34 patients(18.7%).
6) Minor complications developed in 11 patients(6.0%), with pain at the operative site(6 patients, 3.3%) the most frequent Wound infection developed in 2 patients(1.1%).
7) Pathological diagnoses of 211 patients with clinical impression of fibroadenoma were fibroadenoma in 182 patients(86.3%), fibrocystic disease in 17 patients (8.0%), carcinoma in 3 patients(1.4%).
8) No carcinoma was seen developing from the fibroadenomas in the this study, but in one patients carcinoma was found adjacent to fibroadenoma.
